When down south Cracker Barrel is a good choice. They offer good southern style veggies, the best breakfast anywhere, and good variety. Their salads and soups are very good, so you have healthy options. The decor is fun, and so is the gift shop. And prices are very reasonable.

I agree with the person about the Big Texas Steak House or whatever it is called.

I always like the waffle house.

Popeyes fried chicken.

But there is a site for great, but uncommon, non-chain restaurants.

Do a search on the Internet for "Road Food" by the Sterns. It is a good place to start.

We have been traveling for a year across the country and we always default to a Cracker Barrel when we can and there is one in most every state---fewer as you go east and more as you go south. They have the best pancakes ever!!!!---you can get breakfast anytime and it is down home southern style food, with a carb concious menu, veggie and salad choices. Very inexpensive, and filling

Down south you can forget healthy other than Subway. But I love Waffle House, Huddle House, and Cracker Barrel is ok.

If you are around Valdosta, GA try Austin's Steak House!

Waffle House and truck stops come to mind. Look for advertisements on the road side for anything else. I suggest dining in them.

Red Robin is a good choice. Subway is another healthy choice. You might also check local grocery stores for precooked food such as Whole Food stores. I love their rotisserie chicken.
