Nope. The Internet killed the video star.

And MTV, because they stopped playing videos.

Most deffinetly, the purpose of mtv when it was established was to screen music videos and highlight lesser known acts by showing their music on tv to a huge global audience hover now almost every hour of mtv programming is devoted to reality tv from the osbournes to pimp my ride, jackass to punk'd. The reality star is the new royalty of MTV

No.

The reality star just kept pushing the boundaries of vulgarity, while the video star did the same with the boundaries of absurdity (i.e., Tom Cruise).

Most sadly, both simply fulfilled their appointed destiny as mirrors of the basest elements of our decaying culture.

But kudos on the Buggles reference.

No, if anything the reality star -becomes- the video star and vice versa. They work hand in hand.

No. Hollywood took care of that. Apparently you don't need to have any talent or original ideas to get into television or the movie industry. You just need to be related to someone in it. They have to remake movies and shows that were good when they were made. Hollywood I say to you. Where is the talent? America has talent yet hollywood none.

It would seem so, as there is virtually no videos on MTV or VH1 anymore. It's all reality TV now. So, I'd say YES.
