i think it's the first base side...
I think the logic behind is that when a home-team player flies out or is thrown out at first base, the walk to the dugout is shorter.
They make the visiting team's player walk all the way across the field to their dugout...
More info...someone actually did research on this on google answers! check out the link...

I'm not sure of the ratio, but here's a bit of related trivia.
Back in the days when most baseball games were played during the day, the Home team usually occupied the dugout that got the benefit of shade earlier in the day. This is still reflected today in stadiums like Wrigley Field (where no night games were played until 1989) and Dodger Stadium.
At Dodger Stadium, for example, the Home dugout is usually shaded by the time a normal day game starts (around 1pm). The first-base dugout on the other hand is in direct sunlight until much later in the day, usually long after a day game has ended.
If you've ever baked in the sun at a day baseball game, you could see how this would give the home team a distinct advantage.

Cakeater0119 has the right idea. Home team dugouts are generally on the first base side.

Both NY teams are on the first-base side, and I think that is true for most teams but I know not all.

It depends on the team as to which side their dugout is on.
