Did you know that when you overreact to someone who has offended you that you are telling them how to push your buttons? So why give them the power? They LOVE your attention, even if it is negative attention. So, DEPRIVE them of the thing that they want the most -- it's as good as choking off their air supply.

Of course, there is a line to be drawn somewhere. Someone may behave offensively, and not even know it. Either way, they need to be informed as calmly and as rationally as possible. If they still don't get it...well then, they need to be dealt with coldly and swiftly, but never emotionally.

Sometimes emotions are too raw not to come out. I don't totally agree with your thoughts that exhibiting your emotions is somehow making you less powerful. I think this could be true if one were to only have an emotional response void of logic and reason. I think that it is alright to be impassioned in one's speech and talk w/intelligence and clarity. Most importantly, i believe that silence is the voice of complicity and one must always object to someone who is being disrespectful to humanity by speech or action. Good examples are Gandhi, Dr. King, Rosa Parks, etc. They were loud and clear re their intent and chose to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner.

I agree for the most part. But sometimes it's difficult to control one's emotions and they just sort of come out.

Things that offend me: people who ask questions about other peoples' income, sex lives, religion. People who cough w/out covering their mouths. People who yell at their children in public. People who interrupt and don't listen to what other people say (also people who monopolize conversations).

Lots more, but those are some biggies for me!

I find belittling someone is offensive especially if it is for a petty excuse like race, wealth, status etc.It is very wrong and I deal with it by paying no mind to people and to the people who belittle others you are in fact belittling yourself.

I find that when people hang up on me, I get furious and it takes a lot to get
me there. So I have to call them back and calmly tell them what I felt about
it and then Hang up on them.....Now I can continue my day without that hanging over me.

Racism offends me. I have friends of all colors.
I don't handle it. I just sit back and observe how ignorant some people are.
