the morning? Does the first chapter cover him brushing his teeth and combing his hair? I wanted to read " A Farewell to Arms", but a book written about prosthetic limbs does not sound interesting either. "For Whom the Bell Tolls" sounds like a dead ringer for another book I have read.

Then I guess you will not like "A Moveable Feast" (what's so intersting about a meal that moves--does it have feet?), "Now I Lay Me" (is this about a guy having sex with himself?), "The Gambler, the Nun, and the Radio" (I think I've heard that one before) or "The Three Day Blow" (kind of speaks for itself). Maybe it would be best to just stick with the Nick Adams stories.

The novel has its ups and downs; but, as it's based on the life of Christ, the ups win the day (the 3rd, that is). I don't believe Hemingway wrote it, though; he only thought he did.

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" is a solecism. It should be "For Who the Bell Tolls." You can always tell by rearranging the phrase and checking that it sounds right. "Who is the bell tolling for?" That sounds good. Whom?! Please!

"A Farewell to Arms" is a plain old love story about getting or (in this case) not getting enough hugs, a euphemism for sex, a topic that drove Hemingway to suicide.

It is a good book if you like Hemingway. It is about ex-patriot Americans in France and Spain after the first world War.
"For whom the Bell Tolls" is probably a better book for you. It is about the Spanish Civil War. It has more action.

For whom the Bell Tolls is a good book. What I got out of it is accept what life throws at you and never count the dead, lol

I liked the Old Man and the Sea the best. I often remember it and and force myself to eat and plod on when life sucks.

It does bug me though that Hemmiway killed himself. Kind of takes away his from his books.

I am an English Literature masters student and I will declare that Hemingway is the most overrated novelist of the last century. Don't read anything he writes that's longer than "Old Man in the Sea."
