I am planning on going back to school, and I am interested in becoming a real estate agent. First with a company, to get the hang of it, then an independent agent, to make more money.
What kind of degree do I need to get hired?

A Bachelor's in Real Estate and maybe double in Finance would really help. But for you to be a realtor all you need is to obtain your real estate license from the relevant city or maybe state that you live in.

You don't need a degree, but it wouldn't hurt in the long run.
You need to get a real estate license and there are some mandatory classes and a written exam.
Check with your local community college or university to see when they offer the classes. You'll need to take:
1. Real Estate Principles
2. Real Estate Practice
3. One additional course

In California there is more information here:

Check with your state's Department of Real Estate for requirements in your state.

Note: There are additional requirement fo Brokers

I would get a degree in finance. This way you can learn a lot about money and most colleges have electives in the finance arena that are real estate oriented.

Well, it can't be anything too difficult to obtain. Seems like everybody and their dog is an agent. Just call a real estate office and ask someone there. I'm sure they could tell you.

Depends on your state. In many states you need a license, not a degree. For example, CA, CT and TC:
