Interesting question and something my friends and I have debated at one point. Although I'd be tempted to keep it, my conscience wouldn't allow me to sleep at night. So I'd look for the owner. Up to a point. Since the money is in a bag, chances are it's dirty or ill-gotten money and finding the owner could be life-threatening. So most likely, I'd donate the money to a charity with a good track record of putting the money to good use instead of pocketing most of it for itself.

This has been asked on Yahoo Answers before- in some form or another.

To answer your question:

I would try to find the owner. If there was no identification in the bag, I would leave it with the local police.

If I lost something valuable I would hope someone would try find me or give it to the police.

It's the right thing to do.

If there were no identifying marks, I'd notify the police and put an ad in the paper asking the owner to specifically identify the amount of money in the bag. If no one came forward, I'd keep it if there were no way to identify the owner.

I, would post an ad at the nearest police station. Before I hand anything over the claimer would have to specify the amount-since I already counted it-,what type of bills they are,the colour and texture of the carrying bag ,where it may have been left and if it was stolen from them. You have to be sure since anybody can say it is theirs. If they can't within 30 days it's mine baby!!

Now how do you propose to find the owner? If you walk up to someone and say "Hey this bag of money was over there, is it yours?" that person would of course claim it. I say keep it! Who carries their cash in a bag, anyhow? Only the Hamburgler. But then, those are hamburgers.

I would ask around to people and do that for about 20-30 min, if no owner claims it, then I get to keep it.

Wow - great question as most of us want to believe that we are good, honest citizens. Myself, I would keep it! Sure, I would pick up and look around for an owner but if there were noone around, I would run like hell ~ !

:)

I would call the police, cuz chances are sane people who had a rightful ownership to that $ didn't leave it there.

I'd hold it for 30 days, and if no one asked me for it. . . it would legally become mine. Then I would commence to spending. . .
I know it will be several hundred thousand dollars
