41 years old, first mammogram, no history of breast cancer in family although several women have had benign cysts. Do have some risk factors like being overweight (which I'm currently losing having recently lost over 60lbs. I've had 4 kids. Anyway, freaked out by the request for more pictures even though it's probably routine? Right? Could be?

Many women are called back after their mammogram appointment for extra views. Sometimes, it is because the breast tissue is dense (which looks white on the film) and we need to do compression views to see through that tissue. At 41 years old, you probably still have quite a bit of dense breast tissue, so that would make sense. The majority of these extra views prove that the breast tissue is normal and there is no follow up. When you have your baseline mammogram, there is not a previous exam to compare to, so the radiologists would rather err on the side of caution and ask for more images.
On top of that, there could have been a scratch on the film from the developing process or even a finger print on the film from the person who developed the images. So, no need to freak out yet!

There are many reasons for repeat mammograms-you moved, have dense breasts, weight gain/loss. Sometimes it is just the way your breasts were positioned. It could be a shadow. Here's a tip-I don't know if you have any moles or growths in the breast area but, if so, they should put those shields over them since they may read as a spot to be watched. And, if that is the case. make sure the shields are used every time. I was once scared to death after repeat views until we realized the new tech had forgotten to shield the two moles on the underside of my breast.

Congratulations on your weight loss, you have a lot to be proud of. I know it's easier said then done to not worry about a repeat of your mammogram but usually it's just to clarify . Better to be safe. Good luck!

I used to work in a radiology office, sometimes when a woman's breast are dense additional films may be needed; so don't be alarmed if they're asking for more views. Hope everything goes well.

Don't be freaked out, it could just mean that the picture wasn't clear and sometimes the tissue could be denser and you need an Ultrasound, thats in my case. Just keep calm it could be a cyst since they are in your history.

It could be that there was movement and they didn't get a clear picture. It is healthy to be concerned but don't overly worry yourself until you see them again. It may be that you moved just a bit and it blurred the image. Fingers crossed!
