why does your workplace immediately think that if another gay person works there that you are going to be best mates/lovers?

Because society has yet to come to terms with the fact that gay people are just like them, i.e each one is an individual. It is a perception we must fight as it means we have all been stereotyped and placed in the little box marked "Gay" where all the men are camp screamers and all the women are butch diesel dykes.

I once worked with a gay guy that was so threatened by my presence in the workplace that he was worse than the worst homophobe at trying to get me to leave.

Oh yes, been there - I've had people say "Oh, my friend George is gay - you must meet him" to which I've learned to say "Why?" instead of just being polite. And whereever I've worked, people are sure to say - "and you'll like Tom - he's one of yours" or something similar. I wonder if they say that the common factor was race, not sexual orientation?

Not sure but isn't that better than working in an enviroment where neither of you even felt comfortable to share this information? Be glad at what you have got going in your company don't down grade them for one small thing.

Not that I've noticed, my Dear One. Of course, I've always told people that I'm married (and I am). I suppose they're putting it to the fact you're a lovely young lady and have a good attitude...I hope.

Because people do tend to stick together, but your right, it's presumptious to think two gay people would automatically like each other just for that.

OMG-- that is so funny and happend to me.... I think just because we are gay that we need to be with the other gay person..... They probably think there are so few out there. Its kind of like talking to a straight woman, they think because we are lesbians that we are automatically attracted to them... Oh please... That is soooo funny...

FYI-- metblondie222- Our son is a hair dresser and straight--- He gets soooooo much s h i t. Plus georgous.

Gee, I've never had that experience. EVER.

Maybe it's because I don't usually "come out" to everyone I work with? I don't find it's necessary to wear my sexuality as a banner at work. I find it's not cohesive to a work environment and has nothing to do with how I do my job.
