The main difference between a Celeron processor and a Pentium IV processor (and the Sempron and AMD Athlon) is that the Celeron (and the Sempron) have a reduced amount of Level 2 Cache RAM, meaning that they are 'less powerful' than their 'full' siblings. Cache RAM is tremendously fast memory used to pre-fetch information in order for faster calculations to be performed.

I would definitely opt for the 'full' processor ... the Pentium IV or AMD Athlon in preference to their less powerful brothers ... assuming that finances allow.

In addition to the slower FSB, the celeron will have a much lower amount of internal cache as compared to a similar speed pentium. Good or bad is relative to your needs. You would not buy a mini truck if you need tow a 30ft boat, but that does not make the mini truck bad, just not useful in your particular situation.

The Celeron is Intels "bargain" chip. It was designed for computers that were going to be "basic, no frills". The big difference (besides price) is that the FSB (front side bus) is basically cut in half on the Celerons. They are good stable chips. AMD also has a line of "bargain" processors called the "sempron" chip. Just like the celeron, they are for "bargain" systems and do not perform as well as their counterparts.

Hope I helped.....
