here is a question.do you think that materazzi played on zidanes emotions? did he get under his skin? was he able to get france best player in a bind?was he able to get him kicked out of the world cup finals? you know in every sport not just soccer players play with each others head.and nobody is safe.everyone wants to win.the thing is not to fall for it yet you be the bad guy.i am left wondering really zidane blew it when he knows the game comes with talk and that you have to be a player and not fall for it.and why didnt he just say something back to materazzi about his mom.something better?is zidane a spoiled little brat or something.wich leads me to my last question.why are the french act the way they are when hundereds of french men were hurtling insults at our lance amrstrong now turning around and saying insults kept them from winning the world cup? just a few things to try and figure out.

Materazzi is a prick. He plays dirty in all his matches, that's just how the fellow is. Sure, Zidane may have over-reacted, but I don't think him insulting Materazzi's mom would have been any better. I, personally, don't insult people's mothers, it's not right...Zidane probably doesn't believe in it either. I'm glad Zidane did what he did, and I'm damn well proud he won the Golden Ball.

Okay I think everybody is over that, I have a friend in italy and he says everybody hates materazzi, but of course he got under his skin zidane head-butted him which is the coolest thing ever, and how can you say zidane is a spoiled brat the kid grew up in the ghetto, and even if he didnt get kicked out trezeguet stills misses the kick because trezeguet was theirry henry replacement, the thing i do like about you personally is that youre a chargers fan go bolts do you live in SD, just dont talk **** to the bears in PRESEASON, much less on yahoo answers. super bowl win on diving LT play

I was very surprised by the same things you were. The only explanation I thought of was that the now-famous headbutt was a summation of many things. Between the intense pressure (nothing tops world cup finals AND last game), and the constant mouth he was getting from Materazzi- known for that type of bad sportsmanship, he just cracked. What I still have no answer for is this- even though he, as I would, wants to stand by his family and defend them no matter what- why does he say that if he were in the same situation he would do it again!?

Materazzi did his job.

When I played organized ice hockey, I wasn't a scorer, I was very good defensively. One thing I learned to do was to talk "crap" all game long to the opposing player I was assigned to defend against. I became very good at it and I moved up to play against the best players on all teams. I got it done by trying to insult them about the things that would bother them most. I was better with the players that I knew something about. I don't know what the big deal is about Zidane / Materazzi. If Zidane was still in the game, his teammate still missed his PK.

i would like to ask you a simple question
do you think a player like zidane...10 minutes left to the end of his career...will just headbutt cheaterazzi because it gives him pleasure..because it makes him happy?
do you think zidane will want to end his career with a red card not the cup??
materazzi insulted his mother sister and called him a terrorist
zidane heard it for the first time...and didnt answer...he heard it for the second time,...and didnt answer...materazzi kept on repeating the words which deeply hurt zidane's feeling..he couldnt keep his temper no more which resulted in the headbutt
i would like it more if you stop insulting players for nothing...

and dont you think materazzi is a bit of a cheat because if it really hurted him...how come he stood up and shot the penalty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Zidane has courage and honour, so when someone insults him like that, he will defend justice. The man is class and dignity personified, they need to build a statue of him. Materazzi is a scumbag that cannot win with skill so he cheats and uses dirty sleazy tactics. He is a disgrace to the beautiful game, and needs to be ashamed of himself. He should go back to the sewer where he belongs. That is all that needs to be said.

its soccer and the french are babies. it happens all the time, and just because it was an italian player every1 has to ***** and complian becuase they are jealous heres a perfect example.. every1 remembers when Totti spit on a player even tho he was provoked did anything happen to that player? NO! has anything ever happen to any player? no... its part of sports hense.. throwing players and a team off their game. Real players and professionals are able to fluff it off and continue. if u watch the reply zidane starts off with name calling after he pulled his shirt.. and im sure that wasnt the 1st time zidane got his shirt pulled! and by the way do some research this is zidanes 1st headbutt, hes also stomped, spit, slapped and punched players.
