That's a pretty old laptop which did not come with either a built in wireless card or a network port. It does I believe have a modem for dial-up access.
If you need something faster you would have to buy a wireless or wired PCMCIA network card and connect it to one of the two PCMCIA ports on your laptop. It should be on one of the sides of the laptop.
However since it's pretty old make sure the PCMCIA card that you buy will work with the OS you have, which I am assuming is either Windows 95 or 98.
The wired card will be cheaper and more reliable for a laptop that old.

The laptops have not got community enjoying cards in them... you attempt to plug the line right into a telephone modem connection. you will could purchase the two a USB or a PCMCIA community adapter to connect with the community. you will probable locate that most of the adapters you will locate in a keep now do no longer help abode windows ninety 8, so be very careful of what you purchase, and determine they explicitly state they help abode windows ninety 8. ninety 8 hasn't had secure practices updates for a protracted time, and you're in all danger to finally end up contaminated/hacked exceedingly honestly in case you attempt to apply those for customary cyber web surfing. i might recommend setting up a duplicate of Ubuntu on them, so which you've a well-known OS that's look after and able to easily utilising the internet and present day browser's like firefox, and able to run the latest version of flash, java etc.

Your old laptop has 1 or 2 PCMCIA expansion slots. You should be able to install an ethernet or wireless LAN card in one of those slots. Just make sure the minimum requirements of the device match up with your system speed which I think is 266 Mhz and your operating system Version (win 98, win ME, Win XP?)

you can try a docking station for your thinkpad. Most docking stations are Internet ready. You should look on the side of the thinkpad to see if there is a place to put the adapter needed to hook up to the net. It should be on the right side it looks a little bigger than a USB slot.

Many old laptops do not include a modem or a nic. In these cases you must purchase a pcmia adapter to add the capability.

If you want wireless internet, you have two options. There are USB adapters and there are PCMCIA adapters for WiFi use. Check 'em both out, and buy the one you want.

You need a modem, it slides into the pcmcia slot on the side of your laptop. Your type of internet access will dictate the type of card you require. If you're on dialup, you'll need one of these, see link;
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=30853/
If you're on cable/dsl internet you only need an ethernet connection, see this link;
