The differences in race are not important, especialy as far as looks go. And I don't believe that we are almost like different species because the way we act is more a product of our individual socialization than our race as dictated by our genes.

Actually, race is not a scientific term. That's right. There are more genetic differences among people of the same race than there are between races. Race is just a socio-political term that is used to discriminate against people who seem different, usually because of looks or cultural differences.
The definition of race has changed over time. In the U.S., the Irish were thought to be a different race when they first came to the U.S. during the The Potato Famine. They were treated horribly, and could not get jobs. Over time, they were eventually accepted.
The "races" are not different species. We actually have no significant genetic differences. Obviously there are some differences, but there are also differences (more) between people of the same race, so the differences between races is not significant. Basically, we are all the same, but people came up with a way to label others so that they could be treated as inferior. There is no scientific way to define race.
You may be noticing the difference in cultures. People around the world have very different values and traditions. I would probably feel like an alien if I went to another country with no knowledge of the language or traditions. But these are not based on genetic differences, rather on differences in the environment in which we live that has molded us to be a certain way.

Oh I thought that a long time ago, back in high school. I agree very much! If it weren't for globalization, humans would continue to evolve in separate directions -- Asians would grow further from whites, both of those would grow further from Africans, and so on, until we had human species so different that we wouldn't even reproduce with other species of human. In fact, this already happens! This is how animals like cats evolved into different species -- by geographical barriers. Unless there is some international disaster, though, I don't think humans will evolve apart into different species.
In short, I think the different human races ARE different species.

The definition of being the same species is if a male and female can mate and produce a living and like offspring.
Now when was the last time you heard of a a black person and mexican getting pregant and having a still born goat child?
So since any human, regardless of race, that mates with another human of another race has a hman child we are all the same species.

The diff human races are not like different species. Homo sapiens is the only specie for human beings. Of course, everybody look different. Variety is the spice of life. If we all look alike; the world would be a boring place.
Each individual uniqueness makes him stand out.

Ohhhhh man. That way of thinking takes me back to the days when "scientists" were certain that Polygeny (Multiple species w/in the human race) existed and measured skulls to prove that not only were there different species, White people were on the top. This is a gateway to vile racism... be careful.

Definitely. That's what we get worldwide. And in America, everyone DEMANDS to be considered a different and completely extraordinary breed apart from the rest. So yes, Different races are like different species.

different species? simply because of slight differences in DNA? All humans , irrespective of race, still talk, walk , breathe, laugh and cry the same. When they stop doing that sure then you can call them a different species...till then who gives a damn what the person looks like if their hearts are in the right place.

The different human races have far more in common than different dog or horse breeds (for example). They have differences, real differences, important differences - but those differences in no way approach the differences between different species.
One good rule of thumb for distinguishing whether two family groups are a different species or not is if the genetics are similar enough to enable breeding - and clearly, we know that this is the case of people of different races. (Just to pick some examples that you probably know of, look at Tiger woods (black and asian), Brandon Lee (white and asian), Lenny Kravitz (black and white), Shakira (south American and middle eastern.)
Also, I care how people look. For example, I wouldn't date or marry an ugly person, or a person to whom I am not physically attracted. (And I do generally tend to me more attracted to Caucasian guys than to guys of other races. That's my preference and my choice; different people with different tastes and goals and identities make different choices.)
So, your question is a false dielemma (and an unclearly worded one at that). You can think that the different human races are all clealry part of one species, and at the same time care what people look like.
Another weird factor in your question is linking racial difference to differences in looks only. That's not what scientific studies and statistical evidence suggests; evidence suggests that there are also general racial differences in different mental abilities. That's not to say that you shouldn't assess each person as an individual, but it is to say that you should be clear, when talking about racial differences, that you are talking about differences more extensive than appearance.
Note:
To the answer which claims that race is just a political construct: what is your source? Yes there is wide generic variation between white people (encompasing ethinic groups from Russia to Britain to Italy, etc.), and similarly there is wide genetic variation between black people whose ancestors come from different parts of Africa, and so on and so forth for people of other races.
But this does not at all mean that race is just a political construct. This just means that the genetic branching out of humanity since the earlier branching out that gave way to different races, has proven even more extensive than that earlier branching. It doesn't negate that earlier branching.

All humans are the same species because reproduction can occur between "races". If they were different species that wouldn't be possible.
