Self realization comes when there is no need for it; it creeps up when you don’t ask for it or need it. Need is the block to everything that you want, so it is with self realization as well.

Drop the need for self realization and you are there already.

Ask the question - Who wants to attain self realization? Is it I or is it the ego self? Ego can never get realized, it only merges with the higher self and the self doesn’t need to realize itself! When you are completely stilled in the now, with no future or past, you are that self.

Self realization comes when you drop the 'I'. When the I is gone, what remains is the Self.

Ramana Maharishi, a great saint of Tiruvannamalai attained self realization at age 14. He lied on the floor wondering, If I die, then who dies? This mind or this body? Then who am I, and thus realized himself instantly.

Now why would you want to attain self realisation immediatly? Self realisation is what life is all about, and if you cannot learn anything new about yourself, then what's the point of it all?

If we interpret the same meaning of the term self realisation, then what would be the point of experiencing situations in life if you already know how you would handle each and every one of them? And if you knew how you would react to anything life threw at you, would you not fall into what the marxist coined as the "quietism of despair"? Would you not be less motivated to go out into the world and get to know people, or try new things? It seems life would be very boring for you.

Let us not forget those few who possessed wisdom, who had studied all aspects of life and could be said to have gained self realisation from a young age Socrates can be said to belong to this catagory, he was killed for his 'self realisation'. JS Mill, educated in every subject under the sun since he was a boy, became a very unhappy man.

Although, I don't believe these great men did achieve complete realisation. I don't believe it exists. You would have to experience every single event life can give people, you would have to study every subject, understand everything. We don't have enough time on this earth to do that. Though we can try our best like Socrates and Mill. So going back to the point of how to attain self realisation immediately, you cannot. Pure and simple.

If anyone tells you that they can do that for you, will only let you know how for a price, and they would be conning you.

Peace out and good luck on your genuine search for truth.

By 'immediately' you mean instantly? If yes, then you will probably be disappointed. We've been covered by ignorance and illusion for millions of births, so becoming free from all those impressions is not likely to happen instantly. It will take lots of purification work and self-sacrifice.

But if you mean you want to find the path immediately so you can then begin the work, that's another thing. To this I would say I would recommend you get yourself a Bhagavad-gita As It Is and read and study it thoroughly. The Bhagavad-gita is the science of self-realization in a nutshell and as has been recognized as the most important literature for spiritual seekers for thousands of years. The "As It Is" edition is the translation and commentary of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (Prabhupada). Prabhupada passed away in '77 but his numerous literary works, which you can read online at the link below, continue to guide us today. He is a pure devotee of the Supreme Lord and his erudition in presenting the Vedic wisdom so that its easily understandable and accessible is unsurpassed.

When you read transcendental sound, this purifies the consciousness from the contaminations of the material world until you are aware of your pure spiritual identity (self-realization), and you also become aware of your relationship with the Supreme Lord (God-realization). Reading the words of the Lord in the Bhagavad-gita and the words of His pure devotee (Prabhupada) will have this effect upon you. It is transcendental yoga just engaging in the study of the Lord's words.

You might want to read BROTHER OF THE THIRD DEGREE. It explains the process of initiation/self realization to some extent. If you can't find a copy online feel free to email me and I can send you a copy. There are also many other great books. Immediately is pushing things depending on your current knowledge and attainments. I do wish you the best on your quest.

The first step would be to commit as much time as is needed. These things don't typically happen when rushed. There are many masters and gurus who can show you exercises to achieve self-realization. However, in the end, it is your responsibility to do the required work. There is no master in the world who can confer on you an instant understanding of yourself.

Raja Janak, Sita's father, realized the Self immediately. The story goes like this:

Raja Janak posed similar question like the one you have asked to his assembly of learned people. He also received several answers of varied nature, as you have got. Raja Janak felt frustrated but his quest continued. One day while in durbar, a physically challenged man, walking on one leg with the help of a stick, with twisted arms etc. walked in and told the Raja that he could help the King get instant realization.

Raja's courtiers started laughing, saying one who cannot even walk on his two feet, how he can be such a yogi to get Raja instant realization. This man (sorry I am forgetting his name, who later became Raja Janak's guru) told the Raja that all these people assembled in Raja's durbar are "cobblers" as they are only seeing the the outer leather with which he is covered.

Then this man told Raja that he can help Raja realized the Self provided Raja would do whatever this man tells him to do. Raja agreed.

He told Raja that Raja should give him whatever he has including his kingdom, wealth, thrown, etc. The Raja obeys and steps down from his seat, while this man goes and takes over Raja’s seat. Now, he tells Raja Janak to go and sit where all courtiers have kept their shoes at the entrance of the durbar. Raja goes and sits on the floor, near the shoes in front of all the courtiers.

Now this man declares "see the Gods work, in one moment the king has become a poor man while a poor man becomes a king. This cannot be done without His will.”

Now he tells the Raja that the Raja should give him his body. Raja says ok. The man declares “from now on wards it is not your body but mine. There fore you have nothing to do with this.”

Now he tells the Raja to give him his mind and intellect. That means now the Raja will not think and will have no emotions, sentiments, etc, as all the capacity to do these acts are no longer belonging to Raja.

“Now, Janak” he declares, “what ever is left in you is the Lord”. Raja Janak immediately realized the Self.

By taking away the physical processions, by making him sit near the shoes (Raja’s ego was removed), by removing his attachment from the body, mind and intellect Raja Janak realized the Real Self.

It is said that Raja Janak was the best Karma yogi ever came on this earth. Once he was with his queen when she smelled burning of something. Later it was found that while sitting with the queen the Raja had put his own one foot on the burning fire near where he was sitting and did not realize that his own foot was burning. He had detached so much from his own body.

I hope you will realize the Self.

He who knows self can attain self mastery. And he who has discovered to regulate the senses or has attained self mastery can attain Self expertise. in case you don't comprehend your self you may by no skill gain self mastery. in case you haven't any longer developed the discipline of self mastery, you may no longer come to comprehend Self & gain Self expertise. the countless maps & way is open to all. Few chosen to start this way of journey. Many reward!

The first thing to do is to figure out what you mean by self-realization. Once you understand that, the rest should be easy.
