This is a stage when nothing can be sure. Delayed periods are known to occur, but are more frequently observed in a person who has had them like that earlier. The first delay is therefore something that is so difficult to predict, and that is all that can be done right now , with the type of tests readily available (though you have some latest tests which can confirm a pregnancy, say within 20 days, but are available at research laboratories). Therefore, you will have to wait for about a week more to be sure.

I wouldn't worry too much at this stage. Periods can be late for many reasons, and as it is only 4 days late it could be any number of things. Leave it a week or so, and then either see or doctor or buy a pregnancy kit , just to make sure .
Some women can go for weeks without a period ( without being pregnant ) and others can even go months without one. Stress, diet, hormones, can all be a cause for a late period .
It could also be an indication of another problem (depending on age ) so it's best not to ignore it .

When it's 4 days, it's pretty hard to tell. It's still well in the realms of being late. I also had a friend who often 'missed' periods, but this was due to nutritional reasons, could this be a factor?
All the same, if it goes past a week and she isn't feeling any normal pre-menstrual cramps (if she gets those), she should take a couple of pregnancy tests.
I hope all turns out well.

Sounds like you're panicking - I take it you and she have been doing the deed?
Don't worry, periods can get very late indeed, my latest to date has been 9 months, if your friend has just come off the pill it can take a bit for the cycle to get into swing. But it's not like every woman always gets it 28 single 28 days, some have a longer cycle than others, and anyway stress can put it off - so stop panicking. Your stress could be affecting her. If you really want to know, get one of those home pregancy testers.

If she's really stressed, that could make her period late. Either way, she should take a pregnancy test (purchase two tests and use both just in case she makes a mistake) and find out.

My period was once two weeks late and I was not sexually active at 15! Yeah you read that right, two weeks! If you are in any doubt whatsoever though, tell her to do a pregnancy test.
Periods can be up to a week late but in extreme cases (like mine when I was stressed), they can be up to a fortnight late!

Girls are late and it is too early for a reliable pregnancy test. At least a week after first missed period.

There are several conditions that can delay periods or even stop them altogether. Pregnancy is just one of them.
The NHS website has details: http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?ArticleId=979
If your friend is worried, or thinks she may be pregnant, she should see her GP
