I seem to always be 1-4 days late every month, but then sometimes I am exactly on time. Does this mean I cannot figure out my exact ovulation time since I seem to be slightly irregular. Or it doesn't matter and that my ovulation will just be later than it would have been if I had been on time. Basically is it all relative and I just shouldn't worry?

Ovulation occurs approx. 14 days after the first day of your period. Doesn't matter what day you start on, just count 14 days later. And 1-4 days variance doesn't mean your irregular. Irregular periods skip months, have no periods at all, or randomly occur. You appear regular, just not EXACTLY every 28 days. Very few women are exactly 28 days in between each period.

Ovulation does not occur exactly 14 days after the start of your period. (it does for some women, but not all) Everyone has a unique cycle and anything from 28 days to 40 days is considered within the normal range. If you have a cycle that is over 40 days, you might be ovulating, but chances are you aren't. Some women have different cycle lengths each month. One month it might be 30 days and the next month it might be 34. Stress, medications, diet, sickness, and even travel can mess with your homrmones delaying ovulation and messing with your cycle.

The one thing that almost all cycles have in common is the fact that you get your period 14 days after you ovulate. A few women(Very few...if you are one, you need to go see a doctor) have a luteal phase defect that causes their period to come less that two weeks after ovulation...this means that if they conceive the baby doesn't have time to properly implant before the period comes and the pregnancy isn't viable...a doctor can treat this so that subsiquent pregnancies are viable.)

If you want to know what is going on with your body, you need to find out when you are ovulating each month. You can do this by charting your temperature, your cervical mucus, and even taking OPK's...

Your period isn't late each month...your ovulation is.

You should probably chart your ovulation, so you know the right time to try and conceive each month. I wouldn't worry too much, since the cycles are not that different each month-usually if there is a problem with not ovulating, then the cycles are very off-like one month 50 days, 1 month 32 days, etc. Keep trying and good luck!

being only 1-4 days off is that that big of a deal...but yes, then you will not always be able to calculate your ovulation precisely...
I am the same way with my periods and I am going on 5 months of TTC. I can't seem to get it right. I have started using the ovulation predictor kits to help. I know a "rough" time frame of when I may ovulate, but when ttc you have to be accurate.
In your case, count 14 days from the 1st day of your period and watch for signs of ovulation from there...The average woman ovulates 14 days from the first day of her period...you might be day 15 or 16...

Good Luck
