J-Far, it depends how regular she is. If she can usually set her watch by her period, then it's probably a good idea to take a pregnancy test the first day she's late. But if she's irregular, then wait a week or so.

Pregnancy tests are really accurrate, but don't trust one from a dollar store. You don't know how "fresh" they are. Trust a positive result. If the test reads negative and she still doesn't get her period within the next few days, re-take the test.

Good luck, and now go answer my Mets pitching question.

It depends on how regular her cycles are. If she is pretty regular I would start to worry if she was a few days late. There is many reasons for a woman to be late but I would still 'worry'. A pregnancy test is not to expensive and it is SOOOO worth it to get the "what-ifs" out of the way. Even the dollar store ones are good.

If you're late, take a test so you can stop worrying. Periods can be screwey for all kinds of reasons, but its best to rule out pregnancy with a cheap test. There's no timetable...if you're late, you're late. One day or 2 weeks is still late.

Women who are trying to conceive will fret endlessly, up until the day of their period. Normally, I would give it a week. Womens' cycles do fluctuate sometimes, and it does moreso with age. If you're trying to conceive, you can take a test the same day as the first day that the period should start.
