It's knees - if you look at the way their legs are formed, they have four knees. If any of you ave a dog or cat and it will let you pull it about a bit, if you bend the front legs, you will see that they are actually arms as they have elbows.
Incidentally - did you know that having 4 knees makes the elephant the only mammal that is not capable of jumping. Bizarre - but true!

feet. other animals have modified upper limbs for walking. that's just my guess.
