Well "MC" in the sense that Jay-Z is an MC is a Hop Hop abbreviation for "Emcee"...

That being said, it can mean anything from the more traditional "Master of ceremonies" to "Mic Controlla" or even "Move the Crowd"...

As far as the difference between an MC and a DJ...The MC is the one with the mic (normally rapping) and the DJ is the one in charge of making sure the correct instrumentals are playing and occasionally scratching the beats...Sometimes, the DJ also assumes the role of "hype man" used to excite the audience before the MC takes the stage...

Hope that cleared things that up.

Okay Jenny, the role of an MC, also known as an Emcee, is Master of Cermonies. Thios is the person who introduces the acts in a variety show, but after that does not too much more.
A DJ is really a radio Emcee, although in this day and age with killer mixes and such, it has evolved into an artform, and has also escaped radio to find it's way into your favorite clubs, and various Bar-mitvas.
