My CD Burner no longer works even if I use a good quality of CD-R. I've tried all the remedies but none of them seemed to work. I just concluded that it is the drive that's not working when used as a burner. I don't hav money for a replacement. As much as possible, I'd like to have it fixed but is it possible?

I'd find for somebody to fix it because I don't know how how to do it myself... Only if it's possible

Well, most of the CDs I burn are completed only by 2 percent and that's all... It even leaves the computer hanging...

What happens wiht your burner? Sometimes it is a simple software issue, one which I had earlier this year and fixed.

* The only physically broken drive Ive encountered was one which long hair got into. All other times had been freely fixable software issues. (registry edit, defragment, slower burn speeds)

Do your cds start to burn and fail?
Do your cds start to burn at all?
Do your cds burn, but thne fail to be read when you insert them after burning them?

You will want to stop running some excess programs when you try your next burning. This means closing down your internet browsers, open movies, music, and all extras. Just have your burner open.

Be sure your files you are burnign are defragmented. If theyre fragmented all over, the burner struggles.

Lower the burning speed a few notches.

If you are burning Audio cds, you may be encountering a problem where the songs need to be decoded (mp3 to wav(cd format)) before being burned. This takes a 5MB mp3, and makes it a 50mb wav, so it can be burned. Some burners do this "on fly" or one song at a time right before it burns the song. Sometimes too low drivespace means not enough room for the decoded audio files, and would cause a error similar to what you describe. In that case, clearing soem space on your hard drive would help. (atleast 700MB free space)

Sometimes burnign a ton of small files (hundreds of pictures or text files) can foul things up as it needs to seek for and read all those little files, when it wants to be reading a large amount of data per second. IN the case you are burning a ton of small files < 100KB, ARCHIVE the files. This will take them and put them into 1 large file the buirning software will have a better time reading ..

Another option for small files, is to learn how to create a "ISO" image of your files. Much like a archive, it packs all your smaller files in a ready to burn cd image, and is fairly easy to do with most burning software.

It's not expensive to replace it, and it actually sounds like it's totally shot. So, in short, you're going to need a new one.

Sometimes, yes...if it's just a gear out of place or something, but normally you cannot fix it yourself.
