I find that I can obtain similar sensations to being tickled by doing it myself. When someone else tickles you, you brain does not know where the next sensation will come from and so the element of surprise is the difference between tickling yourself and someone else doing it.

Being tickled or feeling ticklish is actually a panic response by the body - even though you laugh! As you try tickle yourself, the body is aware of your actions - therefore. is not panicked!
