The correct word is "astigmatism". It is not serious. It is the most common vision problem.

Usually it is caused by an irregularly shaped cornea (called corneal astigmatism). But sometimes it is the result of an irregularly shaped lens, which is located behind the cornea; this is called lenticular astigmatism. It usually means that your cornea is shaped like a football instead of like a basketball. Either kind of astigmatism can usually be easily corrected with eyeglasses or contact lenses.

If you have only a small amount of astigmatism, you may not notice it or have just slightly blurred vision. But sometimes uncorrected astigmatism can give you headaches or eyestrain, and distort or blur your vision at all distances.

You should probably see a doctor. These links will give you lots of information. Best of luck.

I have a stigmatism also and wear contacts. There are alot of people who do.
All you need to do is tell the doctor you want contacts. They will do your eye exam and if they dont have the correct lenses in stock - they will order them for you.

a couple years ago I'd say no. I have astigmatism too. I have only slight, so I could not wear soft contacts as they would not correct it, but the little smei-soft drove me nuts. Now I checked about it, and they make specific contacts for people with astigmatism. Check with your doc about those in particular. And hey...I'm there with you on the glasses thing!!! I need to go get some contacts myself...
i can't tell you an exact brand, but they do have them for people with astigmatism.

This question is best addressed to your optometrist; call him. He will know much better than anyone online.
