If there is a buzz going on with the speakers and their volume is low, that means the computer's volume is set too high, and the speakers are buzzing because of feedback. It's just like the PA system at a concert. You are getting feedback.
Down in the corner, by your time, there are a set of arrows. It's for hidden Icons, click on that and you will see a mini speaker. Roll your mouse over it and it should say volume, click on it and adjust the computer's internal volume so your speakers won't buzz when in use. If you double click on the mini speaker icon, a more comprehensive volume control panel will pop up and you can make your selection there.
If you are listening to music at work and don't want to disturb your cube/office mates, most speakers have a headphone jack you can use. Using the headphones from your speakers doesn't turn off your speakers, it just diverts the sound to your headphones and cuts the sound to the speakers themselves.
If you are listening to a song and want to get rid of the lyrics and just listen to the melody, that can't happen on a regular computer.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Use the Volume Control that comes with your operating system. First, check the System Tray in your Task Bar and see if you have a volume control icon (the shape of a little horn). If so, double-click the icon and when the Volume Control window opens click the "Options" menu, & then click Properties to see what volume controls have been checked. Still in Options, check Advanced Controls. In this window you have a lot of options and can make whatever changes or adjustments you want, including mute. If you don't have the icon in your system tray, hit Start, Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, then Volume Control and make whatever adjustments you want from there. The Volume Control can also be found in the drop-down View menu of the CD Player.
Also, if you go to your Control Panel & double-click the Multimedia Icon, the Audio Tab gives you Playback options for your speakers - check out the preferred devices and the advanced options. If you don't have the Volume Control icon in your system tray, you do it from here. Just check the box for "show Volume Control on the taskbar".
