Eh, you whipper-snappers nowadays, can't even remember what a great drink Tang was. Probably can't remember those cool commercials where the Tang bottle would take off from the table like a rocket.
Seriously, though...
Tang was created by NASA to be a high nutrient/energy drink for the astronauts. They couldn't take lots of food containers with them, so some sort of all-in-one drink was formulated. And, like most stuff from NASA [such as UV glass coating, scratch resistant coating, Velcro, etc] it was another invention given over to commercial industry.

Tang was specifically developed for NASA originally. It was designed to save space and weight. John Glenn just made it famous.

If im correct, its john glenn JR. He was the first man ever to orbit the earth, read it first human to orbit the earth! Not to go in outerspace, but to orbit the earth!
