i have a hyundai santa fe with side rails roof rack but do not have the cross bars. can i safely strap a luggage carrier to the roof and transport it?

what should i put under the carrier so it doesn't slide or scratch the roof?

what is the best way to attach the carrier to the side rails?

Do yourself a major favor, before putting anything on the top of your vehicle, find out what the load limit is.. You don't want the roof collapsing.
I had a Subaru wagon, older model, and one of the rails came off.. when it rained, and the roof had weight on it, it leaked..
