In "Snakes On a Plane",why did they focus on the Chinese dude that kick boxes?

I'm confused,I thought that Chinese dude was the one that killed the man in the beggining in the movie with a baseball bat.Then later on before people boarded on Pacific Air 12,it showed a scene that he was kickboxing.Was he the guy that helped released the snakes? It didn't look like he did because helped other passengers on the plane.

There were 2 Asian actors in the film.
Eddie Lee..the bad guy who had the snakes put on the plane *btw girls, did you notice when he was showing wood after that sparing match w/ the big bald guy? >)*
