Why?? Whenever I was away from my kids it was always me experiencing the guilt, while they had a whale of a time. I think you're beating yourself up over nothing. No doubt Gran and Grandad will give him a great day.

Kez why not ask him if minds you not being there for his birthday. You can always phone him up and wish him a very happy birthday or better still spring him a surprise visit. You don't have to stay if it is not convenient but at least you will have been there to wish him a happy birthday.

Hope it works out well for you both.

Edit: I see now why you keep changing your name. Ignore the remarks from God. He should remember there but for the grace of god goes he.

No its not wrong, not if he wants to stay with them. Life is tough sometimes and you cant always do the things you want. As long as he has his pressies to open and you ring him in the morning to sing happy birthday (maybe thats just me!!!) and let him know you love him and are thinking of him.

My son wants to go skiing on his birthday next year :o( I was like 'but its your birthday....' and hes like 'Yeah, what an awesome pressie". Dont worry about it, if he is secure and happy with your love, then he will be fine. Its not like you are forcing him to do it is it??

I hate the kids birthdays and would be thrilled if they were away and not to have to provide yet another birthday party! However if it bothers you, go see him, or have a party for him when he gets back, he'll be happy because he gets two birthdays.

Course you should. Come up as a surprise and a new toy car or something. Cherish these moments with him while you can. Because trust me when he grows up faster than you can believe you surely don't want any regrets about not having being at each bday.

YES. No question. You can't re-do birthdays. Next year he will be 9 not 8.

No - its his birthday h should do what he wants. This is just the first of many birthdays where you won't see him. Can't remember when i last spent my birthday with my mum but proably about his age!

so why don't you give him a surprise visit on his birthday cannot see why he cant spend the day with you and his grandparents, i think that would probably make his day having a parent and grandparent to spoil him on his birthday
