I think I might be pregnant. I feel pregnant. I know what it feels like because I've been pregnant twice already. My period is a day late and I've been suspecting that I've been pregnant for quite a while. About a week ago I got the mumps and my doctor gave me a steroid shot to make the swelling go down. I've taken four pregnancy tests and they've all come up negative. Is it possible that the steroid shot could be effecting the results of my home pregnancy tests. I wouldn't have wasted so much money on tests but I just have a feeling that I am pregnant.

I'm not sure if mumps or steroids can cause a false negative. Home pregnancy tests measure HCG, which is present in your urine. I can't see how steroids would make this suddenly not present.

I found this website:

It gives reasons why people get false negatives, none of which have to do with medication in this list.

However, the good news is that you said you are only one day late. Try again in a day. You may not be as late as you thought! Maybe it's just too early to test.

Check out the website www.peeonastick.com. that really helped me with a lot of questions about things that affect pregnancy tests to go negative. Also, I took 3 pregnancy tests all within 4 days of when I suspected to start and got negatives with each one. I didn't get a positive until 4 days after my supposed start date and I was carrying twins which means my HCG should have been higher. I would wait a few days and if your period doesn't start test again. I do not believe that steroids affect pregnancy tests though.

Good Luck!

I think it's more likely that the steroid shot is making you feel pregnant, which could be a good thing, because mumps is not healthy to have when pregnant. It's also possible that you are not far enough along to show a positive test. I hope that you will consider vaccinating your child to prevent mumps after reading about it in my source below. Good luck.
