My daughter wrote on my dodge durango steering wheel with black permanent marker. She wrote, "I love you mommy, You're the best!" In big letters! How can I remove it without ruining the wheel? Will nail polish remover work? What can I do?

if it's a message from you daughter, why remove it? it should remind you every time you're in there how much she loves you.

or you could buy a steering wheel cover.

I have used nail polish remover to remove Sharpie ink from a coated metal case. The nail polish remover may dull the finish of your steering wheel -- check it out on a small patch in the back of the wheel before you wipe down the whole thing.

The ink will most likely rub off on its own, in time. And, at least she wrote something nice! I'd leave it!

There is a product available at most full-service car washes called a "Magic Sponge." It's similar to the sponge sold by Mr. Clean to remove scuffs from walls. It works wonders at getting marker out.

DO NOT USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER. It will degrade and ruin your leather/vinyl.

Nail polish remover (acetone) will ruin the vinyl steering wheel. Use mineral spirits instead.

BTW Jerry, Brake/carb cleaner contains xylene and toulol (lacquer thinner) Are you sure you want to buy a new steering wheel?. Duh.
