It seems like a simple enough question, but it holds a number of interesting implications.
First among these is the implication that it must have a purpose, which is quite diffferent from having uses. You may use it to orient yourself toward or away from the sun. You may use its length as a predictor of the time of day, or even the time of day at a particular time of year in a particular latitude if you are the scientific sort. You may use a shadow to draw silouhettes, or for any number of other things, but to ascribe a purpose to it suggests the existence of a design and, therefore, a desginer.
So, who or what designed this shadow you have? Was it you? Your parents by procreating you? God?
Hmmm, this is getting more an more complicated. Does your question provoke a religious discussion? Well, we could all be witnesses at this moment in time of some extraordinary series of happy accidents. The moon is precisely the right size and distance away to churn the oceans to keep them from stagnating, just by accident. The conditions on the planet just happen to be right for supporting life as we know it. The sun that is casting this shadow about which you are inquiring is just the right distance to warm but not fry the earth, and the earth changes its presentation of its northern and southern hemispheres to the sun's more direct rays, oh every year or so let's say, also by accident, to distribute that warming effect more or less evenly, and to keep the atmosphere churned up with wind to prevent stagnation.
Or, you could believe that these and the hundreds of billions of other happy accidents required for this all to make sense are simply too far-fetched to be plausible. They are so improbable as to require too much faith in a lack of design, and so come round to what seems, at least to me, a more plausible explanation, one that requires far less faith really--namely that all of this is the consequence of a master plan of some sort, and the product of some sort of intelligent design--a God if you will.
Still even if there is a God, and even if God had a purpose for shadows in general, it does not necessarily mean that He, She, or It had some specific purpose for the human shadow. Nor does it necessarily mean that He, She or It did not.
Maybe everything in God's world does have a purpose, but that purpose is still not necessarily knowable by us. Or,maybe the purpose of shadows in general is to allow trees to shade sun-sensitive plants, mold, or whatever, and we just happen to be part of that grander scheme of things. Maybe we are relatively insignificant players in this larger scheme of things, and only our own vanity drives us to try and define ourselves at its center. If that is the case, it could be that purpose or lack thereof of the human shadow specifically, is overshadowed by other things.

There is no "purpose", it is simply an unlit surface caused by your body blocking the rays from the light source.
