no problem

Back in the day (9-86) when I first started with an airline they had programmers, data entry, help desk and computer room all in one department. It was mainframe with an initial transition to PC.

First rule of business was to leave the monitor on at all times. Monitors have a great life span without maintenance, however, if you keep turning it off and on the first thing that will go wrong is the OFF AND ON SWITCH. To them replacing the switch was almost like replacing the entire unit.
The computer room had regularly scheduled down times for the equipment for several times during the year.

No, none at all.

Keep in mind that 70% of a computer's power intake is the Monitor. What many people do is leave their computer ON 24/7 (like me) and turn off the Monitor when not at the keyboard.

Also consider this is a storm season and you can have problems should there be a power outage while your computer is turned on. (Not to mention any power spikes from lightening.)

Unless you live in a very hot place, your computer shouldn't have any problems. In fact, it's still being debated whether the damage your computer causes itself when it is shut off and turned on is MORE than the damage it causes itself by being on constantly.

Also, if it's on constantly, you can join one of those @home efforts and have it doing something while you're not using it.

I have mine on for months in a row. No problems. The only thing to watch out for is overheating, but if the computer fan works well and the vents are not blocked, things should be fine...

Generally no problem. You will notice if their is a problem. If you have a broadband connection then a Trojan virus could be sending out all your data and others could be using your computer as part of cyberspace attacks on servers.

Depends. If you have adequate cooling or a cool place to store it (without moisture, mind you) then it shouldn't be a problem. You probably should turn it off every once in a while, however, to give it a rest.

There's only one way to find out :)

I have read that it is actually good for the computer to stay on instead of the constant on and off.

Shouldnt be a problem. However, it might overheat. Make sure dust does not accumulate near the fans.

Actually they say its better to leave it on or in sleep mode rather than turn it off.....It wears the computer out faster I guess....
