This is one of my vocabualry worksheet questions that wants me to answer in a way that demonstartes my understanding of the word defeated.

When I was little, my mother and me were like oil and water. We always fought and me and my sister were the best friends sort of sisters that could tell each other everything. She was funny, she was respectable, and she was everything that I looked up to in a sister. That all changed when she met her husband. He was abusive, and my sister, who I respected so much, stayed, had two beautiful, innocent children, and was staying in this abusive relationship even though everyday for the first three years of their relationship, she got a new bruise nearly everyday. I begged and pleaded to help her, I said that she could stay with me, our family begged and pleaded for her, for her children, for all of their sakes. My sister is still living with him, but there is a twist, now Rachel is the abuser just as her husband was, they fight constantly, oh, and my sister has now become addicted to painkillers and muscle relaxers. I saw her higher than a Georgia pine the day that her and her husband brought the kids over at mama's and daddy's. That is the kind of emotional failure or defeat that you feel when you know that you couldn't help someone because they didn't want to be helped. You care so much and they don't want you to care. So, like I, you will sulk in worry and try to make them see what you are trying to do for them, until it wore you down and then if they don't care, then you don't care, and that is another personal emotional defeat. I have let myself down because of her, because I cared. And now, I don't even know her anymore. I thought that I used to, but any glimmer of anything that my sister used to be was dicarded long ago. Personal emotion defeat is my event or circumstance....
