Joshua Gibson, a ***** league player in the 1930's, is the best black player of all-time, and can even compete with the best Major League stars of all-time. For instance, take a look at his career statistics. First understand that he played in the ***** leagues which featured a lower level of skill than the majors, but also remember that he was playing against the best competition he could possible compete with.

It is estimated that he hit almost 800 home runs in his 17-year career. In 1934, he pounded 69 home runs, and preceeded that effort with a 55 home run effort in 1933 (.467 batting average). He's also credited by several people with hitting the only home run out of Yankee Stadium EVER!!! Babe Ruth never even hit one that far!

He passed away at the young age of 35 without ever getting the chance in the majors, but had he been given a shot, this forum wouldn't even be needed - everyone would already know the greatest black player ever.

Say hey! Gotta be Willie Mays or Josh Gibson. Considering Josh was called the black Babe Ruth and all.

Mookie Wilson would only challenge for best "name" title but he's be in a battle with Vida Blue as coolest name.

Satchel Paige, 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson, Joshua Gibson and others made great contributions to the game. But, in spite of what Muhammad Ali thought of Jackie Robinson, I like the way Robinson handled himself and the hatred he confronted during his tenure with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
