At my fiance's grandma's house, whenever you turn the faucet's hot water (sometimes cold too) on in a glass, the water is cloudy like there is a bunch of bubbles in it. Eventually, it clears up after about 30 seconds, and there is a slight film along the top of the waterline on the glass... I tried getting a faucet mounted filter and it seems to help some, but i was wondering what the cloudiness is? It's not a very old house at all, because it was built less than 10 years ago.

Anyone have this problem? If so, what is it?

Is there an aeration system on the water line? Sometimes the cloudiness is just air bubbles. Does she have a water softener installed? Could be something related to that, but is most likely just air bubbles.

Best of luck. I hope this helps.

The bubbles are air dissolved in the water. The air comes out of solution when the water is warmed. The film is minerals, also known as hard water.

Sounds like hard water (lime & minerals in the water) is her kettle scaled up inside & can you get a good lather with soap. Scale in kettle & no lather with soap means hard water. If its a good pressure it will be air bubbles making it look cloudy

If you test the water, you'll no doubt find the pH is high (alkaline).

In these cases, treating the water with conditioners will often resolve the problem.
