This beloved CBS soap character was killed off recently.
Due to a contract dispute, Jerry Douglas (aka John Abbott) will no longer appear on the show. He has been an important character since the very beginning, 30 years ago.

I always enjoyed him on the show. I thought they did an excellent job on Friday when he was dying....All the actors did a good job. Still, I'll miss him. Both John and Victor have played such dominant roles on the show.

There was no contract dispute. He was ready to retire anyway. He has agreed to come back each year as a spirit. He is working on a book and some music. The Abbott Clan will not be the same. He was the backbone of that family.

I am so sorry to see him go. the show will not be the same without Jerry Douglas. he wanted to leave the show. I cried when they showed him dieing. it was so so sad seeing John dieing. I hope he does come back and they made a mistake. I hope they bring back Traci. she was good also. what happened to Christine Blair. have no seen her in a very long time

John Abbot and Victor Newman are two strong "legs" which the show is standing on. It can't stand strong on only one "leg". I cried on Friday when every one said their good byes. It was very sad. and I think the cast did a fantastic job playing the scene.

No. I have watched this show since I was 3, and I don't know how the writers could do this to the character.

It won't be the same...my mom has been taping it and watching it pretty much from the beginning, and it made her cry. It was sad, though.
