Sounds like it is too dry and stressed. Also if it had molted you need to look closley at the eyes if they are clear and hollow looking where they used to be black then it is the exoskeleton and you need to just leave it be, it is not dead. If in fact it is dehydrated or dry then it will probably die because they need high humidity.

If it is actually dying there is nothing you can do for it. You need to keep the tank warm (no lower then 70 degrees) and high humidity.
When the hermies are hanging half out of the shells and not moving, it can be dying, about to molt or has molted. When they molt, they will look like a dead hermie until you look and see the actual hermit crab in the shell and the exo is what is on the outter edge of the shell.
When the hermies molt, they have an Iodine, Benodine or a metalic smell. When they have died, they have a dead fish smell that gets stronger.
You need to put a 2 liter bottle over the hermie, that will trap some humidity around him but will also keep other hermies from bothering him, if there is more then just him in the tank, until you known for sure what is going on with him.

I had a hermit crab that escaped outside once. A year later, I found it in the greenhouse in my back yard, healthy as an ox and in a bigger shell! It even survived a snowy winter in the greenhouse. So, I say, get a bigger tank, leave LOTS of shells so it can make the switch and make sure it gets lots of fresh air and water. Those little plastic tanks are bad for ANY animal. Don't put it in the sun though. Maybe put the tank outside in the shade. Hermit crabs do best when they are in a natural environment. Of course, make sure it has food too.

Sometimes they lose body parts, they are very social animals, they need more hermit crabs, I suggest you get it a friend. It may not save it, but it couldnt hurt. Rules to follow with hermit crabs: (that i learned from watching my sister) Always buy their sand at a petstore (beach sand or any other) can give them a disease. Also always have at least 2 crabs at a time. Also, have several empty shells around the cage, of different sizes. Keep them moist.

Sorry, but he's a goner. Bury the hermit. Maybe you need better conditions to keep him? See your local aquarium vendor to verify your habitat for hermits. Don't be afraid to spend a little money to make the proper living quarters for hermit. BTW, hermits grow out of their shells and need to move into larger shells. Make them available please at all times. They are constantly comparing new shells for a better fit. OK?

if it don't move anymore it might already be dead. if its still alive it might have out grew its shell. hermit crabs don't grow their own shells try to give it something else to live in just a bit bigger then its current shell. a small can/bottle etc..

If his body has come out of his shell, you need to give him a bigger shell to move into. If he's not moving, I'm sorry but it may be too late

i imagine it really is molting this is what my hermit crab did, then it died!! Dont mess with it or attempt to play with it becaues it really is probably dealing with some rigidity. ascertain it has sparkling water and foodstuff in any respect situations.

Sounds to me like it may need a bigger shell. They outgrow them sometimes. You should always keep extra shells with them, so when they need a bigger one, they can go house shopping!
