Yes, there were black slaves, but there were also WHITE slaves, CHINESE slaves, JAPANESE slaves, HISPANIC slaves, EUROPEAN slaves, CARIBBEAN slaves...the list goes on and on.

Why are black's so still wrapped up in their history in slavery? You don't hear Hispanics or Japanese bitching about it do you? Why can't they just let it go and move on with life?

Sure, it's their heritage but I don't understand why "my people" get blamed for it. Okay, it may have been my ancestors but I had nothing to do with it. I'm sure that my ancestors had many issues to deal with and I don't take it out on anyone or claim racist at the drop of a hat. I don't agree with slavery but I didn't own any slaves, either.

Do you really think that the other groups you mentioned were even remotely affected by slavery to the same degree as Africans?

It has been credibly argued that the African economy was so negatively impacted by slavery that it is the root cause for much of the poverty that the continent faces today.

As for those that are the descendants of former slaves at least in the US, it not only slavery but institutionalized racism post slavery that needs to be addressed.

Regarding an earlier point, the reason that the majority of slaves were sent to the Caribbean and South America is because they keep dieing. While I'm not suggesting that the conditions in the US were a lot better, they were at least good enough that the slave population could sustain itself (and even grow) while in the other two areas conditions were so poor that in order to maintain the slave population new slaves needed to be continually imported.

I wouldn't call it obsessed, I'd say the attention is deserved.

Because this country is still punishing Black for being the so called last round of slaves..... Yes every race creed or religion were once slaves, But now not only do they hate Blacks for being slave but also they hate them for still being here and these same people take no responsibility for bring them here as slaves. For Black this is a catch-22 it like they are damn if they do and dammed if they don't do. There is no way that they will ever be accepted or free. And since you are one of those people you should already know that. Also is spite of them having over 100 million of them dying in the mid-Atlantic crossing they still can not hate the so call white man as much as the white man hates them................ And yes those other groups are still arguing about those things. May I ask you this question where have you been do you read the news or read or watch TV at all because it seems that you only see thing as black and white any you are totally missing the color thing. You really need another head and maybe you will understand what you are talking about.........

Well, since the last former slaves only died about 50 years ago, the slavery of black people in America is still fresh in people's memories. Even after slavery, the lingering results - Jim Crow laws, lynching and murder without reprisal, segregation, forcing black folks to all live in the crappy part of town, and the list goes on and on - have continued up to the present day. Although people of all sorts of nationalities have been slaves through history, no other group has as recent and widespread an experience with it in America as black people.

I'm pretty amazed that society is starting to move past it at all, considering how recent it all was.

I don't completely disagree with you. However, I don't think it's something that should be swept under the rug either. Black people are still enduring negative stigma everywhere. Things have changed, but when you observe the time frame, things really haven't that much. I mean, black people weren't even allowed to drink from a white person's water fountain during the 1960's. The KKK is still alive somewhere in Hickville and there are skinheads roving the country, trying to make it a pure white nation.

The bottom line: It was all a negative way to gain power and money. I wish my ancestors wouldn't have been so heartless.

Also the fact of the matter is there were more white slaves here in North America than there were black slaves. They were called indentured servants. Yes after some time they were freed to go on thier own. Also another fact that you will never hear anyone say because it just isn't P.C. There were more slave owners in the northern states than there were in the south. Won't hear Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton agree to that now will you? And yes people the civil war contrary to skewed belief was not fought over slavery it was states rights to govern.

They are obsessed about slavery because it is their history, isn't it? Why to care about the others'? And about the others they care also only about their own history: Chinese, Japanese, Hispanics, all of them had greatness and decadence in their history. And if you would listen to Hispanics or Japanese people, they also would have complaints regarding the past.

Did anyone know that the majority of slaves from Africa were sent to South America...not North America. Brazil obtained 37% of all African slaves traded. Well over 90 percent of slaves from Africa were imported into the Caribbean and South America

lol...i love to have a opportunity to explain this...slavery endured by Black people was unique...no other group was brought to America and exploited in such a way that it still affects my people today....the closest thing to our slavery is the Jewish Holocaust any other example will pale in comparison...im not wrapped up in it but i will always remember my ancestors being killed and insulted because of skin color and because a lot of injustice is still taking place because of skin color...we can never forget because if we forget...we're headed back to the cotton field...if we let our guards down...America will take advantage...dont worry tho...America still have the Black preachers on its side and the Black preachers are made to keep us Blacks under control by using the same book that kept our people enslaved for over 300 years...so dont worry about us unifying and taking our rightful place because we are still enslaved by America...we just get enough freedom so that it wont look like the past slavery....its new slavery time so everybody get ya flags and put on ya red white and blue becasue us N-words loooove to shop and make the rich richer...Peace
