I know what this means: somebody got a haircut.

How did it originate?

I am curious!

It is back to school time and there was this young man who was going into the 5th Grade today and I commented, "I see you got your ears lowered." All of a sudden he became self conscious about his ears and his sister who is going to be a Sophomore inquired, "what does that mean?" I replied, "it's an acknowledgment of a man getting a hair cut." This was not enough to suit her...she wanted to know how this expression came about...so, I told her I would go on Yahoo Answers and ask the question.

I don't think it has a special origin. When your hair is cut, to the eye your ears appear lower, that's all.

The phrase "you got your ears lowered" means you got your hair cut.
