As you're planning on starting a business with training the first thing you should do is figure out what you need to charge. Charging seniors for IT training might be a bit tough in Montreal because the local libraries and nursing homes tend to offer the same basic training services for free (or cost inclusive). They have the same thing here in Ottawa.

So what you want to do is contact the senior's centers, nursing homes, churches/jewish temples and masonic societies (Lions, Masons, Kawanis, Templars, Knights). See what they offer an external IT training contractor on a per hour basis and figure out your pricing structure around that. But if you are just starting, they are also great venues to put yourself onstage to show off your skills.

Second to pricing and marketing. You'll need to figure out what the expectations are from the senior's community on what they can afford if you want to do private lessons. Afterall you can't squeeze blood from a stone.

A couple of resources that you may want to check out on getting the basics of a business going.

Start with the local Chamber of Commerce in Montreal, look them them up in the yellow pages. Also (in Ontario at least) there is a program run with the Royal Bank called the young entrepeneur program. I got my start with them and the local chamber of commerce 14 years ago and I haven't worked for anyone but myself since.

Make sure you take a nutrition course, a lot of the programmers I have known have neglected their nutrition and have suffered. Make sure you educate yourself in social skills and physical fitness. All these are common weak points in programmers. You need your health to get a good mate after your career takes off. You should get the four year degree if you can swing it without debt, but if debt is the price then take a two year and get really busy gaining contacts in the industry. Good luck!
