Their larvae are food for fish.
They are food for bats, birds, and other insect eaters.
Without them these predators would have a smaller food supply and would disrupt the balance of the food chain. IE, less mosquitoes = less small fish = less big fish = less food for us. And so on...
There is a balance in nature. All animals serve an ecological purpose, even those we may not like very much.

Mosquitos are eaten by flying birds and bats. Though they only drink a little blood, in some ways they are predators for humans, since they spread the malaria virus which can be fatal.Serious problems with mosquitos are increased by the use of pesticides in fields and conditions that allow for standing water, where they reproduce.

Mosquitos serve as both an important source of food for many other creatures in the ecosystem (as noted several times by other answerers), and they are also important disease vectors. Be careful with your terminology: in zoology, you don't want to sound to anthropomorphic, so refer to an animal's "niche" or even "role."

In ponds and in slow moving water mosquito's and mosquito larvae provide food for small fish. The problems they cause to humans and other animals do more harm than the benefits they give the fish.

Mosquitoes function food for different beings. additionally they serve to transmit viruses and the such. That final section won't be sturdy for us, even though it rather is sturdy for nature. What people do? I even have attain the tip that the Human function in nature is to act as a gadget for cleansing up the species. via that I recommend the only purpose of the human style is strictly to make species extinct to pass away way for the greater advantageous species to flourish as quickly as we extinct ourselves.

i admit i don, tlike"skeeters" myself but as a tropical fish breeder, skeeter larve,or wiggletails save me uncountable dollars every year. i set out large containers of watter for "skeeters'to lay their eggs in. when the larva mature i net them and feed my fish. there is no better live food for tropical fish and it,s nearly free, very little trouble and very few larva escape to make grown "skeeters"--and incidentaly a little oil of citronella mixed with rubbing alcahol is a very nearly perfect"skeeter"repellent

to drive us insane!
no serioiusly.. I don't think we've actually found a real "purpose" yet but just because we don't know what it is doesn't mean it isn't there.
