Why did the chicken cross the road?
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To get to the other side.
Although perhaps the most famous of all jokes in the English language, this joke is a Non-joke, in that its humor value comes from the fact that it is expected to be funny. Additionally, it is rarely told on its own, but instead is referenced, modified, or parodied in a number of other jokes.
One of the many word-plays on the television series M*A*S*H was spoken by Hawkeye when the power-mad Frank Burns ordered the entire unit to move just a few dozen yards for no reason at all: "Why is this chicken outfit crossing the road?"
Q: Why did the turkey cross the road?
A: Because the chicken was on vacation.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road in Texas?
A: To show the armadillo/opossum how it's done.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the Möbius strip?
A: To get to the same side.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: Because it was too far to go around.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: Colonel Sanders [of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame] was chasing it.
Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To see a man lay bricks.
In the film Stripes (done in march cadence):
Bill Murray: Why did the chicken cross the road?
(Platoon): To get from the left to the right!
Sometimes it is juxtaposed with another category of humor:

Short answer:
Becoz the chicken couldn't fly.
Long answer:
The chicken and the pigeon were at the tree.
Pigeon: Well, I'll tell ya, those wings ain't going to lift your up in the air. That's for sure.
Chicken: Oh yeah? Watch me!
Pigeon: Yeah, I'll watch you, from the other side. LMAO
Without an effort, the pigeon just hooped off the branch, dipped across the road with spread wings. Gracefully, it glided upwards and landed ever so swiftly on the telephone wire high above.
Pigeon: Now let's see you try to match that move, fat-so!
With that comment, the chicken turned madder than the matrix cow. It started running around the tree to build up speed for the take off.
Pigeon watched intently and noted the seriousness on the chicken's face.
Waddling as fast as those stubby legs could take it, the chicken closed its eyes and mustered all the might it could gather for one last round about the tree, then off it went with spread wings -- and feathers -- to cross the road.
Convincing that it was almost fast enough, the chicken pumped those drum sticks one last time and leaped as hard as it could.
Heart of the pigeon was pounding so fast, it's eyes watched with dilated pupils, beak dropped and speachlessly in shock.
Then it happened.
[Slow motion -- clashing symphony in bg]
The sand and dirt were kicked up in the air and falling all around. The chicken bounced off the ground in front of the retracting leg. It was just about to clear the dry hot asphalt...
WHAM!
It was hit, by a speeding semi-truck out off nowhere.
(Well, wat-da-ya expect?)
Just as quickly and suddenly, the 18 wheeler disappeared out of sight, leaving nothing on the scene. Nothing except a eerie feather settling slowly from the after draft of that hellish semi-truck.
Moral of this story:
Always look both ways before you cross the road.

On the rare ocasion that the grass looks better our chickens might cross the road.
Or the dog is chasing them.
Or there are lots of worms on the road from a heavy rain.
