Travelling about 4am out, and 3pm back... does it make a difference what time of day it is?

I am afraid I can not tell you the exact fare but I can give you an estimate.

At 4am you will have to pay double fare, plus extra fee for airport pick-up, tolls and luggage. I believe that 40euros is a fare estimate.

At 3pm it is single fare but the traffic will make things worse. 40 to 50 euros is my guess.

If you are concerned about your budget I suggest you using the underground or the airport buses. The buses have a 24hour service. The metro stops at 00.00 and starts again at 5.00. The bus costs 3.20euros and the metro 6euros but it is faster and more convenient.

Both of them have terminals at the port but if you choose the metro you should change trains at Monastiraki station.

If I was you and I would choose one of the above and not the taxi. If you choose the taxi do not go through the city center but take the motorway (it is called national road or ethniki odos) and then Attiki odos. It is faster but you may still face some problems with traffic,.

Hello dear!
There is regular bus connecting Piraeus port with Athens airport! It cost 3.10 Euro and takes, depending on the time, about 60 minutes. Day schedule has more departures per hour, but it lakes a little longer!
Taxi would cost about ten times more and about half an hour!
I mainly use this bus!

Look.from midnight to 6 on morning the fare is double. In a fare out of this period you will pay about 15 euros. if you want to go cheaper or avoid being cheated you can use the proastiakos line which is near the airport(an airport employee will tell you how to go) and then stop to the station where you can use the "green line" of train which has the port of pireus as terminal station. the ticket for proastiakos train is 8 euro and for the other subway lines is 0.8 euro

There is regular bus (one stop) from the airport to Piraeus.
www.ktel.gr ia the bus timetable for Athens
www.aia.gr is the airports site.

Taxi 25 to 30 euros. Find someone else at the airport going to Piraeus (bound to be some) and share.
There is also a metro link.

Anything between 30 & 40€.. Greek taxis are on a +/- European standard now; you do not get folled too often anymore.. but be aware of those charging 'radio-surcharge' or nighttime surcharge.. the bad guys do have plenty of tricks to make you a believer.. try to book your taxi through your travel agency.. they have the right connections for a fair transfer..
Enjoy Pireaus but move along to the better places
