I personally do not like to see some poor dog or cat dressed up in costumes. The animals always look pittiful to me... "Like somebody help me.... please" Animals don't need clothes so why put them on them. Its just not right!

Because they are stupid. And a lot of times those people don't have kids so they substitute with animals. I wish they would see that animals REALLY don't like that.I can understand something like putting those blankets over horses when it is really cold or a sweater on those hairless dogs when it's cold but those costumes and little outfits drive me crazy!

Anthropomorphizing their pets. Usually, they have strong parent/child type feelings for their pet, and can't accept it is an animal, not a child. It's funny, you seem to see this more with older people who don't get to spend a lot of time with or have no grandchildren. I think it's something they don't even realize how silly it looks. Especially when it is a group menality thing - all the other old people in their retirement park in Florida or Arizona do it, too! Just like peer pressure in high school. Weird.
Oh, yeah, and the Hollywood peer pressure thing is rampant, too, (a la Paris Hilton, Brittany Spears), and of course star seekers want to emulate their idols. So, it is becoming more common for the younger set to buy Chihuahuas and Yorkies as accessories & purse stuffing, not living creatures. Heck, look at all the questions on here from women seeking small breeds! By the way: people, there are NO SUCH THINGS as 'teacup' dogs - it is a made-up term to part fools from their money for an unhealthy, pathetic, poorly bred dog, FYI. Sheesh!

well some people think it cute to dress up dogs but i do believe that they should not over dress them too much but maybe a simple loose cute shirt during winter for christmas day can be cute for few hours. but always watch how the dog is acting for example, if they seem unhappy than take the shirt off. some dogs with no hair on their bodies do need to wear something like a coat during the winter time when they are outside cuz they don't have a way of staying warm.

Pets are like children; they just can't speak English. So of course a real pet lover will dress up their pets because it is cute. As long as the pet isn't trying to take it off, it's safe.

Oh lighten up it looks so dam cute my sister and brother in law used to dress up there little cocker spaniel and that little dog was so proud she would prance around like a little model on the run way and when you would tell her how pretty she looked she would wiggle like crazy she loved to be dressed up

i totally agree with you. i have a golden retriever and i bought a little black harley davidson hat for her, and when i took it home and put it on her, she looked stupid. dogs are cute enough without being dressed up. what irritates me are the little paris hilton handbags for the rat-looking chihuahuas. thats f*ing retarted.

They look cute on them.And dogs dont realy mind.They take it as like a treat.Cuz they dont feel left out.Cats dressed up??????Thats not right.I dont know how they would get the clothes on.

It's adorable and those people love their pets as if they were human. Those pets are spoiled and loving it despite having to wear the occasional cute outfit.
