Well, offhand I'd say it's British sensibilities responsible -- I still don't quite know what to make of a TV show called "Rising Damp" -- but since it sounds like you are British as well, I would have expected you to understand where the names come from. I dare say it's also because up until VERY recently, the BBC didn't really pay anyone very well, and the production value of a lot of British TV was, quite frankly, pretty crappy as a result. People weren't paid well to be creative, just to fill the airwaves with something acceptable by the viewing public, so I suppose that extends to the names of the programs as well.

Don't feel bad; we have a lot of bad TV over in the US as well (heck, we INVENTED trash TV)... I don't even watch that much any more, except for the occasional sci-fi program or something on the Food Network or Discovery Channel.

I think it is just the fashion of the time to have these bold self explanatory titles. I don't think that the beeb is alone though. Most TV show titles are pretty close to what they show. The American ones are even worse. They tend to have a glut of talk shows/sitcoms named after the presenter or main character - Oprah, Jerry Springer, Sally Jesse Raphael, Joey, Ellen, The Norm Show etc.

Actually, now I come to think of it isn't every program title related to what the program is about?? Surely that is the point of the title? You wouldn't have drama about 19th century soldiers in the Boar wars and call it Farming Today?

Hhhmmm, I think you need to re-evaluate your point good sir!

Well then, complain to the Beeb, not us! Must admit that I do like the title "Sorted" though... Esp with an East End accent.

I think the BBC programmes are rubbish anyway, so just switch over and you won't have to put up with their lack of imagination!

I agree, at the moment there is a program on called 'Can't Cook, Won't Cook'. If they can't cook and they won't cook, then why are they bloody well cooking!!!
