There's no reason you have to be in pain. Epidurals take the pain away and allow you to get through the most difficult part of labor without terrible pain. When you have your appointment today, talk to your doctor about how you feel. They should be able to put your mind at ease.

Just remember- labor is finite, and it will be over before you know it. The really scary part is when you get home from the hospital, and you realize that little person is your responsibility for the next 18+ years!! Good luck, and try not to worry too much (easy for me to say, right?). You're about to embark on the most exciting journey of your life!

Wow you must be so excited! It may seem like an eternity before 3:00 gets here. Try to do something for yourself for the last few hours before you have this new wonderful beautiful human being in your arms. Go out to your favorite restaurant for lunch. Treat yourself to an ice cream etc. You will need your strength! Make sure you have your bag backed and your phone list made. If you are like me you probably won't be able to take your mind off of things. Did you take a birthing class? Try to remember the breathing techniques they taught you. How ever long labor takes just remember that you will forget all about it once you lay eyes on this new person that you carried for the last 9 months. There is nothing more rewarding. It's all worth every minute. What also helped me a little was talking to my belly and telling my baby how excited I was to meet her. (I didn't know she was a girl at the time.) That way maybe you can change your feelings of scariness to excitement. Best of luck and congrats on your new baby. You will be a new mommy very soon!!!!!!

Don't freak out, this is what you have been waiting for right. :) Did you attend birthing classes at all? If so focus on your breathing. Women have been giving birth for hundreds of years, just think of the women who had to do it without drugs or pain medication. Being scared is normal, just remember that once it is all over you get to hold your baby for the first time. Make sure your partner is aware of some relaxation techniques. Warm wash cloth for your head, or cold which ever you perfer. Massage cream or oil for your back or feet. Bring your own pillow with you, this may comfort you some. Or maybe even some relaxing music if the hospital permits. You will be fine. :) Congratulations on the upcoming baby and Good Luck. Remember you don't have to be in pain, if it's too much ask for the epideral, or demeral. Everyones pain tolerance is different and you won't be considered weak if you need pain medication, LOTS of women get it.:) Smile it's almost over.

I also had to be induced. I wasn't any worse than going into labor on your own. Labor hurts no matter what. I was in labor for 20 hours and then had to have a c-section. But, trust me, When you hold your baby for the first time, you won't even remember how bad it hurt. I can't remember anything from those 20 hours and I wasn't even given drugs! It is a great experience and you can do it! Think of the outcome and BREATH!!!!! You will do great! Good luck and Congratulations!

OK since you are scared you have obviously heard all the pregnancy war stories. It is normal to be terrified these are uncharted waters. Hearing all that drool gives you a nasty thought of labor well here is the dish from mom of 3. I have been induced and you better breath and not scream because it hurts worse when you scream. Focus on your breathing and it really hurts less. No one can tell you how bad it hurts because once you have that baby in your arms you know it hurt but not how sever it is washed away with joy. The nasty stories get you ready for the worse and your mind makes it so much worse than it really is. None of my labors were easy but you know it is going to end and that baby is so worth it. Use drugs they invented them for a reason epidurals make you suffer way less.

It is horrible. I had a few strong non progressive contractions and when they induced labor, I started having severe pain and I just wanted to die. It took 9 hours for my baby to come . They say breathing helps, but I found it useless. I could have really used some medicine instead. The labor is what hurts though, by the time the baby is coming you will be delirous and really not feel anything, I didn't have any medicine but the birth wasn't bad, just the labor.

Yes I was but because I was getting a cesarean. What I did was some breathing exercises and pray. Also I went in with my husband and that helped me ease a lot. The doctor was also helpful in helping because he answer every question I have even the day of the cesarean. He also made some jokes. Anyway, you can take some relaxing Cd's to hear or some scented candles or a bag to potpourri. Also I will get some DVDs to watch on a portable DVD player. Some comedy series (Friends, Seinfeld) or some cartoons can help too. Hope this helps and good luck

Yes, the difficulty with labor is that you want to freak out, and the best way to make it easier is to relax.

That's why Dr. Lamaze borrowed Pavlov's research with dogs to develop his breathing method. If you spend the whole time focusing on achieving perfection with the breathing exercises, the pain and other strange sensations recede to secondary considerations.

The best thing to do is ot try to distract yourself in any way you can. Eat ice chips or sip water, have a friend or your mate massage your feet and hands, have someone read to you, do whatever it takes to think about other things and realize that it is possible to get through this, if not with a smile, at least with the knowledge that it is temporary and there's a beautiful baby when it's all over!

these are perfectly normal feelings that you are having.

hopefully you are getting an epideral and with that you will avoid the really painful part. you will still have some pain but not nearly as bad as without it.

if you are not getting an epideral then you will need a support person with you. you need to find a spot or object in the room that you can focus on during each contraction. remember to keep a steady breathing routine during each contraction.

don't be afraid to tell the nurses if the pain isn't being controlled by meds.

you will do fine birthing a child is instictual and you will know just what to do.

good luck to you and your family. god bless your little baby.

That was the scariest day of my life, when I went into labor and they induced mine right then and there cause I was a week late...Just pray and stay calm, this is the best thing you can do. Any extra anxiety will only complicate things for you. Remember to breath, relax, and listen to the nurses and doctors instructions. Good luck, and I'll say a prayer for you and your baby. Congrats ahead of time...I'm sure you'll do just fine.
