My partner had a Mitchell's osteotomy on both feet at the same time, she was in plaster withsome very fetching blue 'frankenstein' slippers which enabled her to walk very gently.
We had a wheelchair for a couple of weeks but she was more keen to move about on her own.
The surgery lasted a couple of hours, and she had two nights in at the hospital.
Most people only have one foot done at a time in order to improve mobility during healing.
She's got really nice feet now, very little scarring and she can walk without any difficulty.
Hope all goes well, apparrently the worst part is the hospital food :o)).

I had this done about 10 years ago. I had both feet done at the same time, which made recovery a bit more difficult. The surgery was under 2 hours long. They had 2 doctors, one for each foot. Usually patients go home the same day, but I had an allergic reaction to a pain killer so I was there for 4 days (this is not common). I won't lie, it did hurt a lot in the first few days, but then it wasn't too bad. They give you a surgical "boot" to wear that prevents you from bearing weight on the front of your foot. I think I was in a wheelchair the first few weeks because of having both done. I couldn't drive or work and was pretty dependent on people for awhile. I think it was all over in about 6 weeks. If you have them on both feet I would recommend doing both at the same time. It's a little harder in some ways, but I wouldn't have wanted to go back and do it all over again with another foot. I haven't had any bunion issues since the surgery and am glad I got it over with.

My mom had 2 major foot surgeries, hers were a mess. SHe had bunions, bones removed, and also some plastic joints put in. Her feet are fine now, but she has really committed to proper fitting shoes. One thing my mom did, was she walked on her feet right from the beginning. Out of surgery, she was bent over and hobbling around on her heels hold her toes up so they didn't get touched, and then she just walked everywhere in soft knit slippers. Because of the increased blood flow, she made 3 1/2 months healing progress in 1 month. She said it was very painful, but there was no way she was going to use a bed pan! And her surgeries were 30 yrs ago, so it was permanent for her

I haven't had the surgery but i work for a podiatrist and i've taken photographs of it while it was performed. the surgery is less than an hour. The recovery time is 4-6 weeks, and most people use crutches the first few days only bearing minimal weight on it, but after that you should be fine. The biggest tip is to keep it elevated, it can cut healing time down dramatically. good luck

My had this surgery August 1st. She was walking around just a day or two afterwards, but was in slight pain. Also for the first week after surgery you cannot get your foot wet, so no showering. You can only really take a bath with your foot hanging over the edge of the tub, essentially. After 2 weeks, her 'boot' came off and she can wear tennis shoes again.

I had it done to both of my feet at the same time about a year ago. I was on crutches for about a month and a half. I could put weight on both of my feet, but it did hurt. The surgery lasted about 2 - 2.5 hours. I have scars on both of my feet and it's still obvious where the pin was in my foot, but the surgery was definitely worth it for me.

My friend had it and she has a LONG scar on her foot but she says her feet feel so much better that it's worth it. I think she was fully recovered in about 7 months.

I haven't. My friend has bunions, but she wears corrective soles in her shoes or something. I hope your surgery goes well, you'll be in my prayers
