How's the career like? What sort of training one must undergo to become a successful game programmer?

Very few people make a living at it. But many people make an excellent second-job out of game programming. Its too fickle a career to ever raise a family on.

As far as training.. general programming is good. In ANY language. However, it does appear that having a firm grasp of networking is becoming necessary no matter what type of game progamming you get into.

If you are just starting out then you might want to get involved at SourceForge.net in one of the projects there. Good experience and good resume material.

I'm becoming a game progrqammer my slef. what i have done (and what i think you should do) go to a school that has a degree in game programming. look up some game places in your area and ask what school they think you should go to. as for how the career is like, more then likley you'll be making $60,000 a year. nice :)
