It's positive that rap provides a way for black youth to express the realities of their world (including the bling bling which I personally dont like but it is their reality and the desire of many). It's positive that their culture is being shared with a wider audience because familiarity helps break down the walls between people. It's negative that its often taken out of context.. a word here or a phrase there... but listen to the entire story and you get a different picture. Better yet listen to the entire album and you see each song is just a slice of a day in the life of the artist.
Rap reflects the reality of the black experience in America. It's not always pretty. Some songs are about the party, some about love, some about surviving, some about crime, some about family, some about cheating, some about nothing but what can be seen on the corner. The best artists tell their story, along with the stories of family, friends, and people they see on the street. If America really listened to it they would learn alot about black life in America.
Unfortunately, the stuff that is promoted by the industry, latched onto by suburban kids, and sells the most are songs that talk about pushers, pimps, hoes and the bling bling. And this stuff is real... but not nearly so plentiful as the percentage of songs about it on video would have you believe. Real rap fans look beyond the hype to see the real rapper.

In the beginning i would say it had a POSITIVE effect because it would open people's eyes about political-social or whatever situation.
However, in the past 10 years it's been very different, worse.
Most rappers talk about "MONEY, WOMEN, CARS, CLOTHES" and things like that. They like to show off and that is NOT a positive thing.
It increases the power of capitalism by influencing young people on sales and materialism.

this is an excellent generalization about Rap. you could tutor your self extra in a kind formerly you flow and actually say no rappers rap about powerful adjustments. Underground Hip-Hop sends multiple functional messages about politics, and regulate for the further constructive, ending violence contained in the black community, and pulling down all the stereotypes that were placed on them. purely because the further constructive commonly used rap has develop into nasty, low cost, and stupid, does not mean there are not a lot of songs with shifting lyrics.
