Cradle cap involves scaling and some redness of the scalp occurring in infants that. It generally is not a part of any illness and does not imply that a baby is not being well cared for.
The best way to treat the condition involves the daily use of a baby shampoo applied with a soft toothbrush to cleanse and loosen the scales. I have tested an application of baby oil after bath being effective. If after a week or so there is no improvement and there are no other signs of illness, your doctor may prescribe a medicated shampoo that is usually used for the treatment of a fungus. Keep in mind, however, that cradle cap is not an infection of any kind. It will just go off gradually so just give some patience. As long as nothing looks strange, seeing a doctor is not a necessity.

Cradle cap looks like golden colored dandruff, or can look and feel like scabs. It generally develops over the soft spot because parents avoid touching it when washing, brushing or combing their baby's hair. It is harmless to babies and will go away as they get older and their hair starts to grow in. My son had a bad patch of it on top of his head and is now 14 months old and still has some. It never bothered him, and occasionally when I comb his hair a flake or two will come off. My pediatrician said that if it itches or bothers the baby, some 1% hydrocortizone cream should relieve that as well as help it go away. Most instances though it won't even be noticeable to your baby. You can use a baby brush and some shampoo in the bath to gently scrub it. Another cure that I was told of and works is to rub olive oil or baby oil on the scalp to moisturize it. Leave it on for 5 minutes or so and then wash it off. Use the same method as shampoo, a baby brush or the little scrub sponge with the fingernail brush to comb it away, those bristles also make a good baby brush for babies with very fine or very little hair. They also will help to gently alleviate any itch baby is having. Good luck, and be assured that unless it's an infection, the cradle cap will not harm baby even if it lasts 2 years. When in doubt, show it to the doctor.

If baby's head is scaly, it's cradle cap.
Use a baby brush and baby shampoo. You can be quite aggressive when scrubbing in little circle, just watch the soft spot. I would do this 2 times a day and then moisturize in between. The scales you see are over the skin, so feel free to use your fingernail to remove them, gently of course. It's not like you are picking a scab or breaking the skin. Should clear up in a few days.

as a mommy to 2 small children i have seen my share of cradle cap...My pediatrician told me to use a small drop of dandruff shampoo. put it right in the middle of the head and using there baby brush lightly rub/scrub in a circular motion then rinse it completely out. You can do this every other day or as often as the cap comes back. My pediatrician says tht oils just clog the folicles on the head.. making the cradle cap worse. Ask your pediatrician what would work best for your baby.

You would know if your baby has cradle cap. It looks like a crust on the cap of the head.
I used to think this was due to sanitation... but, after having a baby who had it, I tried scrubbing to keep it away, but she still had a little. I think poor hygiene can exacerbate this (when good-intentioned moms are too gentle to avoid harming the soft spots), but, in general, this just happens because the baby's skin is getting used to being out in the world.

It looks like dry skin stuck to their head and when you scratch at it it comes off flaky... I used baby oil after everybath and used a toothbrush to get it out.. they also make a new cradle cap cream for it too..

cradle cap looks like a dry, scaly, scabby, rash but isn't usually red unless it is touched. Baby oil works great but also be sure to rinse baby's hair very well when you wash it, soap residue can cause it to. Even if it is something else the baby oil won't hurt him/her. Good luck.

Cradle cap is dry itchy skin on top of the scalp, caused by the skin drying up after birth. (the baby was in moisture for 9 months,) baby oil to the scalp clears it up.

do not use baby oils or lotions people have suggested cradle cap is a thick scaley yellowish build up due to too much oil in the scalp if your baby has this oils and lotion will only make it worse your babys scalp might also be peeling it will look like a thin layer of skin coming off like really dry skin it would be white in color in this case use the lotions
