I had same problem with my son 8 yrs ago-I only gained 17 lbs total-he only weighed 4.8 lbs at birth yet he was full term. I was diagnosed with intra-uterine retardation-where the baby just did not grown inside of me but he scored 9.9 on his apgar test. I was going in for ultra sounds every other day the last week of my pregnancy and my last ultrasound they said he was over 5 lbs-so were not that accurate but he was delivered naturally 2 weeks before my due date to give him a chance outside the womb to grow as he was not getting everything he needed to put on weight inside but he was healthy and fully developed. The last month of my pregnancy I was drinking Ensure and eating a higher calorie diet the doctor gave me. Your doctor will stay on top of it. I only gained 19 lbs. with my daughter I delivered 13 months prior to my son being born. Some women do not gain alot of weight and that may be your case also. Good luck and bless you!

I gained a bit more than that, but had a good friend who only gained 12 lbs with both of her pregnancies. Her babies were fine, perfectly healthy. If the doctor is really concerned, he or she should do an ultrasound to try and determine the weight. Sometimes the baby is growing just fine, your body just isn't putting on much weight. Also you might gain more at the end, that is totally normal too. Either way, I'd ask the doctor to be specific about concerns, then go from there. Try not to worry too much, this may just be the way your body works

I gained about the same at my full-term pregnancy, my baby was totally healthy and weighted 7 and 2/3 lbs at birth. His growing later was very good, too. However I lost all what I gained at pregnancy right after the delivery, even a little bit more.
If you are worrying, you can ask Dr. for an ultrasound test and see how much the baby weights at the moment.

You are probably retaining very little water weight. That is just my guess. I am glad that you discussed this with your doctor before asking it here. Try eating an extra snack during the day and if you are exercising try cutting back on that.
16 lbs. doesn't sound too bad to me. At this point you may start gaining 1lbs every week.
Just make sure that you are eating healthy and following your doctor advice.

I understand that it was a long time ago, but my mom only gained 11 pounds, and I weighed 8. I seemed to be fine then, and I think I am okay now.
I don't think your weight should be as important as your uterus size. If the doctor is that concerned, maybe an ultrasound should be done to measure the baby.

I gained only 16 pounds. From 108 to 124. My doc was concerned at one point when I stopped gaining it, and told me what she wanted me to eat more of. My baby was fine, almost 6 pounds, but I'm a small person to begin with.

I gained 40 lbs with my first and only 12lbs with my second. As long as you are eating when you are hungry and not over exercising, I would think you would be okay. You may still gain a few pounds too, who knows!
